Pastor Lonnie Townsend Sr.
Pastor Lonnie Townsend was born in Houston, TX to the late Jack and Shirley Townsend on May 9, 1960. He has one sister and four brothers, one of which being his twin. He spent his early years in El Dorado, Arkansas, where he graduated from High School in May of 1978. Pastor Townsend enlisted in the United States Army in June of 1978. He retired in September of 1994. Pastor Lonnie Townsend had a very noteworthy military career serving as a 16D Hawk Missile Crew Chief. His career took him to several different posts including Bitburg, Germany; Wurzbach, Germany; and Fort Bliss, TX. Pastor Townsend also served a tour of duty in the Desert Storm Persian Gulf War. For the last seventeen years Pastor Townsend has been employed by the Department of Veterans Affairs as an Environmental Management Supervisor.
Pastor Townsend met the love of his life, Addie Mae Stewart, the daughter of the late Isaiah and Henrietta Stewart of Hazlehurst, Mississippi, while they were stationed at Kitizgen, Germany. They were married in 1982 and to this union three wonderful children were born, LaKesha, Lonnie Jr. and Michelle. The other love of his life is his granddaughter Sariah Michelle.
He accepted the Lord Jesus Christ as his Savior in 1983 under the leadership of Pastor O.I. Kirk Sr. at the Unity Missionary Baptist Church. He was ordained as a deacon in 1988 and in 1994 accepted his calling to the ministry. He proved himself to be a faithful servant and was appointed by Pastor Kirk as “Assistant to the Pastor” in 2001. In 2010 he was entrusted with the care of Unity by being appointed as the “Assistant to the Church”. Pastor Townsend is the second Pastor of Unity Missionary Baptist Church following the late Dr. O. I. Kirk, Sr. who served as Pastor for 49 Years.

My calling is to work with people of all ethnic backgrounds, for GOD has no respect of person.
