The Unity Missionary Baptist Church formed in 1963 when Good Hope Missionary Baptist Church; and the St. James Missionary Baptist Church, having the mind of Christ realized that two was better than one. This fellowship convened at 4300 E. Yandell Steet for seventeen years.
The church, through steadfast faith and prayer, was blessed to purchase land and relocated to a newly built edifice located at 4601 Maxwell Avenue in September 1980.
With the expansion into new territory, Unity expanded in its vision of saving souls to effective outreach. This ministry actively visits hospitals, elder care facilities, juvenile detention centers, local jails, federal prisons and homes. Widows and widowers are personally visited and offered assistance as necessitated. Also the church advocates assistance to secure shelter, food or clothing for the less fortunate.
Unity is known for evangelism to the local community and abroad (i.e., Alabama, Tennessee, Washington, Hawaii, Germany, U.S. Virgin Islands). Every occasion is important as it is an opportunity to win lost souls for Christ. Ministries that witness alongside the Pastor on these engagements include the choirs, doorkeepers, missionaries and brotherhoods.
By the foolishness of the gospel many have become saved and converted. Many preachers, pastors, evangelists and teachers embarked on their spiritual transformation during their time of fellowship with the Unity Missionary Baptist Church. Some of the ministries have dispersed throughout the world to fulfill Gods mandate of “Greater Works.”
As part of the collective body of Christ, Unity Missionary Baptist Church embraces Acts 1:8, But you will receive power, after the Holy Spirit comes on you; and you will be my witnesses in Jerusalem, and in all Judea and Samaria, and to the ends of the earth."
